The Office is an industrial design office and collaborative space based in Kuzguncuk. Kuzguncuk is a centre where people of all ethnicity and religion came together and lived over the years. The area is filled with small businesses, cafes, library galleries and crafts shops. This area is very special to Istanbul because it represents many things that we as a society aim to be, as a result, it was immensely important to give back or serve this community some way, shape or form.

 

Industrial design is something a lot of people overlook in their lives and yet it is in every aspect of our lives from the phones we use to the plate we eat on. Industrial design is also one of the sectors that have harnessed new technology in an impactful way. These two aspects on their own make the existence of The Office meaningful.

 

Starting by the name "The Office" this workspace is brandless by its very nature. On the one side it is a highly functioning Industrial Design studio with cutting edge technology and a fully equipped tool shop for prototyping , on the other hand it is a collaboration and education space that uses its multifunctional cafeteria to host seminars on the latest updates in the industry or teach the locals how to integrate commonly used tools and programs by designers in their daily lives. The locals can use the tools in the tool shop as a part of the community program. The terrace serves both as relaxing area and a space where events can be held with a stunning view to the Bosphorus. The studio portion of the building houses a large meeting room, a presentation space, an executive room and a  common work area. 

 

All of these spaces are integrated in a way that allows for collaboration of many people and that serve anyone that comes to work here and create while maintaining a fully functioning business under its roof. I think creative spaces such as this one are very important in the forming of a new generation of designers and the education of all kinds of people on the products they use every day.
