Shattered was a project created as a part of the "Kapı Tasarlıyorum 2018 Öğrenci Tasarım Yarışması" and was created in collaboration with Anıl Yavuz. The Brief for the project was to research the idea of a self-portrait and design a door that represents or reflects this idea in some way. 

 

After vigorous mindstorming, this idea of reflection came to mind. In today's world, we live as reflections of our selves, false ones at that. We present our selves on social media not as who we are but as whom we think we want to be; we show a pleasant truth or lie altogether. A self-portrait in today's world can only be one that is fractured , that is wrong and that is tampered by our own perception of ourselves.

 

The phrase "Insan kendinde ne görür ?" means: What does one see in themselves ? to ask this question in a healthy manner I believe that we must see ourselves for what we really are an be in peace with that self. 

 

The design for the door is one that reflects its meanig. It is a modular design that can have variations and even use recycled materials an create a whole new texture. The whole inner structure and the frame from MDF which is recycled material by nature. The pieces and the frame are cut using a laser cutter allowing for great efficiency and low cost. The pieces are then painted and put together like puzzle pieces to create the door.
