I know, a water bottle review might not be the most exciting thing you have read today but this review is not simply about a water bottle, it is about what we put in our body and making an effort although this is one hell of a water bottle if you ask me. A water bottle wasn't something I wouldn't have thought twice about let alone order one off Amazon, however, that was before coming to Madrid. Madrid is not a place where water is cheap and so constantly buying water is both a burden for your wallet and for your mind. Lucky for us Madrid tap water is quite drinkable and is what most of the locals use. Be that as it may, it isn't the most optimal when you have it in plastic bottle hours on end.

After staying in Madrid for a few days I woke up with a sore and dry throat every day which I presume was an effect of the high caustic lime content and the water is in a plastic bottle for a long time. I carried water in a used water bottle and then upgraded to a gym bottle but both caused the water to taste nasty after a few hours. I found myself avoiding water something I did the opposite of before. I try to cut out any other soft beverage so water was the only hydration I got during the day and I needed a solution.
Swell was a brand I heard of before while looking into EDC gear. Everywhere you go you can notice that nearly everyone has a swell or a metal water bottle of some sorts. Me being a sucker for well-designed products, I quickly ordered one off of Amazon (Swell 17oz Teakwood Water Bottle) with that being said they aren't cheap starting at 25$ ranging up to 45$. Because I have never used one I worried that I might have wasted money. After a few days, it came in a cylindrical box that has their slogan and some information about the bottle on it. The most important thing you see on the box is that it the bottle your drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours and that it does very very well. I ordered a Teakwood one and although the covering doesn't have a distinct texture it is very high quality and holds up to scratching very well. What surprised me about the bottle was that it was a little heavier and taller then I expected, this is a result of the high-grade stainless steel and the triple-walled insulation technology on the inside. As a result of the insulation, there is no condensation happening on the outside and the bottle does not sweat at all on the inside leaving a bad taste. Speaking of taste there was a night and day difference between the taste of the water when compared to my shitty gym bottle even when the water sits for a day.
The Design of the water bottle is gorgeous imitating the curves of an actual water bottle but in a sleek way. There are also thousands of designs on swells site some of which resemble a piece of art, like, Yellow Gold Ombre one they have. Although the bottle is worth every penny I would say that it has a few design flaws. To start it off the opening up top maybe a little too small if you want to put ice cubes or some kind of fruit in the bottle. This is an issue a lot of people had with the bottle one that personally doesn't bother me too much, in fact, i like that it is small because it provides a much better drinking experience than some other bottles out there. My biggest problem with the bottle is that it isn't the most balanced object in the World, this is an issue for me in two ways. One I knock it over constantly when I'm at home and knocking over a steel bottle full of water doesn't sound so good from downstairs I would presume and the latter is that it falls over from my bags water bottle net when I put it down which makes me constantly check to see if I have dropped it or not.
To conclude this review i would say that this bottle is worth every penny. It totally changed my experience with water and made me drink more, it is made by an awesome company with a great cause and none of the downfalls are deal breakers. So if you are interested in buying a sleek well-designed water bottle/thermos definitely check out Swell they have a plethora of designs and products ranging from cocktail kits to travelers. If you want a cheaper option to Swell 17 oz check out either the Hydro Flask 18 oz or the Yeti 18 oz Rambler , although they are not as sleek , they come with a wider range of options and accessories.
I want to end this post on something I realized after using this bottle for a bit and that is making an effort for my health. Water is something we overlook so easily and yet it is one of the most important aspects of our lives. Having this bottle reminded me to drink water throughout the day something I discounted, also with my nutrition. I started in making an effort in preparing my meals beforehand, this is a big game changer that you don't understand if you don't try for your selves and I don't mean a sandwich but a proper meal. It boosts your energy and motivation through the day and makes big difference in the way you approach work, at least it did for me(like I said I love cooking). I don't want to get preachy again but try and make an effort in what you put into your body and I promise you will see a difference.
Hope you have a great day.
